John,
My name is Trudy, and I am a proud mother of that courageous woman running to unseat Jim Jordan, Tamie WIlson. When she told me she was running I got excited because I know what a determined achiever she is.
I want to tell you more about Tamie, but when her team asked me to write about why I am so proud of my daughter and what I think of her stepping up to run for office a million things came to mind, but none show her loyalty, dedication, and fighting spirit more than how she has supported me through my ongoing battle with breast cancer.
Years ago, I was told that I had an advanced form of breast cancer that had gone undetected while my husband and I were underinsured. Because my husband was a small business owner, obtaining reliable and affordable health insurance before the Affordable Care Act was non-existent. Therefore, my ability to access preventive care and routine screenings for things like breast cancer was limited, and without obvious symptoms, I had no idea anything was wrong.
From the moment I first received my diagnosis, Tamie has been at my side every step of the way. She has slept in the chair next to my hospital bed everytime I've been admitted. I’ve always known her to be a fiercely loyal, loving person ever since she was just a small child.
We started calling her "The Child Advocate" when she was 8 years old because she was always helping someone. I think her experience and criticism as a biracial child made her more sensitive and aware of other people's need for inclusion and advocacy. She is a people person. She loves people and always wants everyone to be happy. I am filled with pride and admiration at the woman she is and the leader she has become.
Tamie has always been a go-getter. When she sets her mind to something she doesn't stop until she achieves it. When she was a child, we told Tamie she could do anything she set her mind to, and she believed us. HA!
Jim Jordan doesn't know who he's dealing with, but he's about to find out. I can't wait to see her win that seat and protect democracy.
