Hey John,
I first attended Netroots Nation in its second year — and I've returned every year since then. I also stepped up a few years ago to serve as Volunteer Coordinator.
What makes me return year after year? If you made me pick my top reasons, here’s what I’d say:
The chance for learning. You're simply not going to find a better set of trainings and issue discussions for movement leaders and activists under one roof anywhere else. Choosing which session to attend can sometimes feel like having an unlimited pass at progressive Disneyland.
The chance for inspiration. I’m a life-long activist. If you've been doing this work for years like I have, you might be a little jaded or tired. I always find one or two keynote speakers who fire me up, remind me why we all do this work, and recharge my activist batteries for another year in the struggle.
The chance to meet partners face to face. Working in coalition with other groups requires trust — and that trust is immeasurably strengthened when you've connected with someone face to face. Netroots has always been the best place to meet your partners and collaborators and get to know each other over coffee or a meal or a hallway conversation.
The chance to network (and socialize!) with other progressive leaders. From chance introductions in the hallways or after-hours social events, I always have interesting discussions with fellow organizers and come away from Netroots with new friends and allies.
Through tonight, December 15, the Netroots team is offering discounted tickets for the 2024 event, happening July 11-13 in Baltimore. Click here to get your ticket at our special holiday rate.
I truly hope to see you there! And if you'd like to volunteer, I'd love to have you on the team (sign up here).
😊
