Tying our safety to an apartheid country halfway across the world makes us less safe here at home.

Dear friend,

I believe in the United Nations. The world needs a peaceful, diplomatic space where leaders can work on problems facing humanity and individuals.

But as an American, I cannot accept a United States government that defies and obstructs the international peacekeeping order.

On Tuesday, the UN voted overwhelmingly to call for a ceasefire in Gaza—153 countries voted in favor of the resolution. The United States voted against.

Since 1945, the US has used its UN Security Council position to veto at least 34 resolutions critical of Israel. This is not democracy.

Over the past few years, many member-nations have appealed to remove the Security Council’s veto power, which has also been used by Russia to block humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

My stance has not changed in the past two months: the Israeli response to the attack on October 7th is not a proportional, justified, or effective way to ease tensions and bring peace to the region. Far too many innocent people have died, and we as Americans bear direct responsibility for this tragedy by funding and supplying weapons to the Israeli army.

I am the first of only two candidates, out of 15 who will be on the ballot, calling for a ceasefire including the release of all hostages and civil liberties for Palestinians.

If you stand for peace, please join me in making a contribution to this campaign before our end-of-year deadline. We need to power our get-out-the-vote effort and make sure constituents know there’s a corporate PAC-free, no-special-interests candidate in this race who shares their values:

As a Jewish person, I keep an eye on the rise of antisemitism with concern. Our path forward is not to tie Jewish safety to Israel, an apartheid country halfway across the world waging a genocidal war against an entrapped population that’s almost 50% children.

Jews deserve safety in the United States—the country in the world with the most Jewish people—and we need to uphold that safety by championing human rights and liberties for all.

Los Angeles needs an advocate for peace in Congress. With your help, I’m confident we can win this seat and put one there.

In solidarity,

Maebe
