WILLIAMS NEWS
As we approach the end of another year, we have some bittersweet news to share. Dr. Bianca D.M. Wilson, the Rabbi Barbara Zacky Senior Scholar of Public Policy, will leave the Williams Institute at the end of 2023 to join UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs as an Associate Professor of Social Welfare.

For 12 years, Bianca’s research on demographic characteristics and disparities experienced by LGBTQ populations has helped shape the Williams Institute’s work. Focusing on the structural impacts of race, class, and gender among LGBTQ people, she has published more than 50 research reports, including the first-ever study to estimate the number of LGBTQ foster children in Los Angeles. Her research also includes a seminal study on homelessness among LGBTQ adults and a body of work on poverty, especially among LGBTQ women of color.

The impact of Bianca’s scholarship at the intersection of race, sexual orientation, and gender identity was honored by the American Psychological Association’s Division 44 with the 2021 Distinguished Contribution to Public Policy Award. That same year, her expertise in sexual orientation and gender identity survey measurement led to her participation in the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Consensus Panel on the Measurement of Sex, Gender and Sexual Orientation.

Bianca’s work has been cited in court decisions and federal legislation. She has made an indelible impact on the lives and well-being of millions of people, including all of us at the Williams Institute. Please join us in congratulating Bianca on her new appointment.
