John,
In 49 BCE, the Roman general Julius Caesar and his army crossed the Rubicon River, entering the northern border of Italy—the Roman heartland—and officially declaring war against his longtime friend and fellow general, Pompey Magnus. Legend tells us that as his troops forded the Rubicon (it’s really more of a stream than a river), Caesar turned to his officers and declared, “Alea iacta est.” The die is cast. Events had been set into motion which could no longer be altered.
As of this afternoon, filing for the 2024 election in North Carolina is closed. The game board is set. The die is cast.
With the dust settling, this is what the landscape for our race officially looks like:
*
On
our
side
of
the
aisle,
we
have
two
Democrats—myself
and
the
primary
challenger
I
mentioned

you
yesterday.
*
On
the
other
side,
three
Republicans:
*
AJ
Daoud,
a
far-right
MAGA
Republican
who
was
running
for
State
Auditor
until
last
week,
*
Rachel
Johnson,
the
wife
of
our
former
far-right
Superintendent
of
Public
Instruction,
Mark
Johnson
*
Brad
Briner,
a
financial
advisor
from
New
York
City
who
sits
on
the
board
of
a
private
boarding
school
in
New
Hampshire
Any of these Republicans would be a serious threat to the well-being of our state —I’ve told you about how economic anxiety has become a breeding ground for extreme, far-right ideology, and it looks to me like all three of them are plenty comfortable in that standing water.
And with these Republicans in the race, it’s more important than ever that we consolidate our support and run a robust campaign. As of today, I am officially the only candidate in the Treasurer's race who: [[link removed]]
➡ has been elected to state government before
➡ has run in a competitive race before—and won
➡ can win this seat for Democrats in November of 2024
And now I once again need your support. With the game board set, it’s time for us to really kick things into gear so that we can hit the ground running in January. We need to get out to voters’ doors, we need to reach them on the phones, and we need to get on the airwaves from West Jefferson to Wilmington.
Our time is now, and flipping this seat is going to mean getting our message to every single voter that we can reach to let them know that together, we can have a State Treasurer’s office that invests in our people. But it’s going to take a massive warchest so that we can win this primary in March and beat whoever our Republican challenger will be in November. [[link removed]]
John, if you’re with me, if you’re with this campaign, please chip in today to help us reach the finish line. Every single dollar makes a difference. [[link removed]]
