Over the last few years, we’ve made real progress towards creating a brighter future for generations to come. And we’ve made history, too.
When I was elected 4 years ago, I became the first Muslim woman elected to any office in North Carolina. And just last week, I was elected Chair of the Board, another bittersweet first.
But now, I’m running for re-election because this is still just the beginning. I’ve seen what we can do when we work together and I know the power our collective movement holds, and I know we have so much further to go.

I believe in a brighter future: one where low-income working families don’t need to choose between paying a bill or putting food on the table, where everyone makes a living wage, and where diverse voices are at the table.
I know this is possible. Why? Because I’ve been fighting for this since day one, with you right alongside me. Together, we’ve:
* Provided relief for low-income families in Durham with our guaranteed basic income program.
* Raised the county employee minimum wage to $19.
* Created a sense of community that puts diversity at the forefront, because y’all means all.
But we still have so much more to do. Our election is in just 81 days, John. That means we only have a few weeks to connect with voters all over Durham, fund our mail program, and cover other campaign costs.
