We’ve got a little less than a year to save democracy in this country.
Did that sentence motivate you? Probably not. You may agree (or argue
there’s a lot more work we need to do before we call ourselves a true
democracy, and to that we say, damn straight), but there’s only so much
enthusiasm we can muster by repeating “this is an existential election,
the most important of our lives” every four years, even if it’s true. It
is true, by the way.
The work over the next year has to be about framing the danger of MAGA
extremism, absolutely, but if we want folks to get off the sidelines,
we’ve got to paint more than a dark picture of what Trump is threatening
-- we have to be offering a positive vision of what we’re gonna deliver,
too.
Fundraising emails have to be the same way. And surprise, this is a
fundraising email!
So many of the emails we receive are about the horrible things that’ll
happen if you don’t donate and not about the exciting, transformative
things your donation will make possible. We don’t want this to be that
kind of email.
So here’s our simple format: Column 1: Things Trump or his team have said
they will do if they win (some requiring Republican control of Congress,
some not). And this is just what they’re saying out loud. Column 2: Things
we can accomplish with a restored Democratic trifecta (a real one, with
Gallego instead of Sinema in the Senate). And last but not least: A chance
for you to donate so we can organize like hell over the next 326 days to

We’re just scratching the surface of the chaos another Trump term would
bring and the list of progressive reforms we could pass with a restored
Democratic trifecta.* There’s so much we can do to make sure our economy
and democracy works better for everyone -- not just those who can afford
massive political donations and vacations with a Supreme Court justice. We
can usher in another four years of progress or four years of vengeance,
division, and democratic backsliding.
We know which future we want, and we have a plan to get there. But if
we’re going to fund all the grassroots organizing it’ll take to deliver
victories up and down the ballot in 2024, we really need your help.
