Last week Ed joined Rep. Cori Bush and other progressives in Congress to introduce the End Solitary Confinement Act.

We’re collecting signatures today to show that there’s real grassroots support for passing this important reform.

Solitary confinement is an inhumane practice that has been a feature of our prison system for far too long.

Being forced into a small, concrete cell without windows for hours, days, weeks, and even months on end isn’t rehabilitation, it’s cruelty.

Studies show that solitary confinement is even tied to increases in recidivism, and data proves that it is disproportionately used as a punishment for Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ people in prisons.

Ed’s bill would finally end this practice on the federal level — and also create new standards and protections, such as capping the time that incarcerated people are alone at four hours and requiring staff to meet them within one hour.

So please, we need everyone’s voice if we are going to show that the majority of people support ending solitary confinement once and for all.
