Hi John,

I'm Sarah Rauzana, a Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Young Ambassador from Indonesia.

Working with local organizations, I spread awareness throughout the region about how tobacco products affect not only our health but also our environment . Most people don't think about the tons of toxic cigarette butts polluting our waterways, or the senseless deforestation and carbon emissions associated with tobacco cultivation and manufacturing.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids' Asia Young Ambassadors Summit in Bangkok this year was a game changer for me.

I learned a lot from fellow youth advocates about the challenges they face in their countries and about the creative campaign tactics they're using to fight the tobacco industry. I'll be able to apply these to my work in Indonesia. I was also able to create a network of youth advocates across Asia who are fighting the tobacco industry from an environmental perspective, like me.

In addition to my usual campaigning, I recently had productive meetings with Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Ministry of Youth and Sport to discuss how we can reduce tobacco use. We also talked about how young people can participate in policymaking to ensure it prioritizes public health and the environment. I think steps like these can have a snowball effect, as government officials begin to fully understand the problem and see how many young people care about it.

I care deeply about the environment – and together with fellow youth advocates and support from the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, I can help create significant change. A healthier, more equitable future is possible, but it won't happen on its own. We need more young people to lead the way, and I'm certainly one of them.

You can be a part of it too.

All my best,

Sarah Rauzana
