Oldham town centre gets High Street Accelerator funding.
Â
A ÂŁ237,000 funding boost for Oldham's high street and night time economy has been welcomed.
The High Street Accelerator Pilot will see us work in partnership with our residents, businesses and local organisations, focusing on Yorkshire Street and Union Street.Â
We'll use the funding to tackle empty shops and develop our night time offer - further boosting the ongoing regeneration of Oldham Town Centre, which is now well underway.
Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, met with Sacha Lord, Night Time Economy Adviser for Greater Manchester, to discuss the funding news and outline our ambitions for a thriving town centre, both day and night.

Have your say on exciting new plans for our family servicesÂ
Â
We want your views on our plans for improved services for Oldham families.
Â
Millions of pounds in funding for new Family Hubs has meant that we can now provide far better services for our children and families in seven new Family Hub centres across the borough.Â
Â
The first Family Hub opened in July at Beever Children’s Centre, along with our online Family Hub, so people can access expert help and advice however suits them best.Â
Â
Each of our seven Family Hubs will provide an open door for families needing help and advice from our dedicated, trained support workers. They will also host a wide range of clinics, activities, classes and drop-in sessions including stay and play sessions, baby weighing clinics, baby feeding groups and more. Â
Â
Alongside our plans for seven new Family Hubs, we are also planning to deliver classes, clinics, drop ins and activities for families from other public buildings like schools, community centres, town halls, libraries and leisure centres – right in the heart of local areas. Â
Â
Using other local buildings and the new Family Hubs will mean that some of our current children’s centres won’t be used for these services in future. There will be no reduction services as a result of these changes, and all services will still be delivered in each area – but could operate from different buildings.Â
Â
You can find out more and share your views on these proposals via our [online survey]([link removed]) or by speaking to staff in our children’s centres.Â
Â
Please have your say and help us improve our services - making them better for Oldham families now, and in the future.
Â
The survey will close on Monday 29 January.

Anti-spiking pack delivered to pubs and clubs
Â
It’s the Christmas party season so our Licensing and Community Safety teams have been raising awareness with pub and bars about the dangers of drink spiking.
Â
Together with Greater Manchester Police we’ve been delivering anti-spiking packs in readiness for the festive period, focusing on Oldham town centre, and areas such as Royton, Failsworth and Uppermill which are all likely to be busy.
Â
We’ll continue to distribute these packs and work alongside licensees to make sure our residents stay safe.

Greater Manchester Clean Air PlanÂ
Earlier this week an update was given on Greater Manchester’s Clean Air Plan.
Like many areas across the country, Greater Manchester has high levels of air pollution on some local roads. It affects everyone’s health and is linked to early deaths.Â
Greater Manchester is under direction from government to develop a Clean Air Plan to meet legal limits for nitrogen dioxide on local roads in the shortest possible time and by 2026 at the latest.
The Greater Manchester proposed investment-led Clean Air Plan does NOT include a charging Clean Air Zone.Â
The investment-led plan developed by all ten GM local authorities would bring air quality within legal limits by 2025 – faster than a Clean Air Zone – and without causing hardship to residents or businesses.Â
If approved by government, the Clean Air Plan would use government funding already awarded to the city region for:Â
- 64 zero-emission electric buses for the Bee Network to run in areas with poor air quality.
- Clean vehicle grants for all eligible GM-licensed taxis and private hire vehicle owners.
- Local measures to manage traffic flow and improve air quality on some roads in the centre of Manchester and Salford.
If the government approves the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan no vehicle would be charged to drive in a Clean Air Zone in Greater Manchester. Â
