This January will mark three years since Trump and his enablers tried to overturn the 2020 election and incited a violent mob to storm the U.S. Capitol. But it’s hardly history.

The threats to American democracy are greater now than ever before.

Trump is plotting his return to power — vowing to weaponize the federal government to punish his political enemies and a free press, threatening to make giant immigrant camps and mass deportations, and promising to fire thousands of nonpartisan civil servants.

Meanwhile, MAGA militants have successfully captured the House. We now have a far right House Speaker, Mike Johnson, who was “the most important architect” of the rebellion in Congress against certifying the 2020 election results.

And dark money MAGA groups are working hard in swing states to capture local election offices and politicize election administration.

It has become painfully clear this year that the Jan. 6 insurrection — and all the MAGA machinations around it — were just the beginning of a right-wing campaign to delegitimize democratic elections, tear down the firewalls that have preserved our democracy, and set the stage for subverting future elections.

That’s why CMD spends thousands of hours investigating election deniers and insurrectionists and those who fund them:

• CMD was way ahead of the curve in 2020 — warning about the Right’s dangerous voter fraud narrative and Trump’s pre-election scheme for overturning election results, and exposing Stop the Steal protest plans just days after the election.
   
• CMD documented the role of ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council), the Republican Attorneys General Association, the Council for National Policy, and others in supporting the Jan. 6 insurrection and backing bogus election audits.
   
• CMD launched InsurrectionExposed.org to provide you with hundreds of in-depth profiles on the politicians, groups, lawyers, and funders who participated in the 2020 election and are working to subvert future elections.
   
• CMD exposed the Conservative Partnership Institute — a dark money group run by Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows and MAGA lawyer Cleta Mitchell — that staffs, trains, and scripts the House Freedom Caucus to sow chaos in Congress and hold the nation hostage to its repeated government shutdown threats.
