John, my name is Melanie McNeill and I’m the new Fundraising Director at Greenpeace UK. As we near the end of the year, it’s my job to crunch the numbers and see how much we raised this year. I hope I can be candid and tell you it’s not as much as I hoped.

It’s been an incredibly tough year for all of us and many of us are feeling the squeeze. Unfortunately we’re seeing the impact at Greenpeace too. We urgently need 1,099 people to start a monthly gift today to help us plug the funding gap.

John, I know that money is tight right now, but your support is needed now more than ever. Will you donate a monthly gift today to help fund campaigns and keep pushing for a greener future? Even a few pounds a month will make a huge difference.

Despite this shortfall, I’m immensely hopeful. I’ve seen first-hand what our supporters can achieve and when we work together, we can help shape a fairer, cleaner and safer world. But if we can't fund our crucial campaigns next year, I’m afraid that nature, people and the planet will be even more vulnerable to Big Oil and weakened policies. Now is not the time to slow down.

With an election looming, it’s vital we’re ready to seize the opportunity and push for stronger commitments from all political parties. We must be ready to hold the government to account at any moment. If we don’t meet our target, we might have to scale back some of our campaigns for next year which is the last thing we want to do.

The truth is, the UK’s dependence on fossil fuels has played a big part in our soaring energy bills. It’s frustrating to think that if the government had invested more in renewable energy and home insulation, we wouldn’t be in such a mess in the first place.

Regular gifts are what keep us going, and help us plan for the future. We don’t take money from big businesses. We don’t accept government funds. All of our work is powered by people just like you. And that’s hugely important – because it allows us to stay independent, to make bold decisions.

Please, can you be one of the 1,099 generous people to set up a monthly gift this year, so that we can start 2024 ready to act and stand up for the planet?

I’m reaching my sixth month here and I’ve been so moved by the passion and dedication from our supporters, activists, volunteers and staff. But we need your help to keep going. We won’t stop holding the government and polluters accountable. Together, we made real change this year and we’ve got bigger, bolder plans for 2024 – let’s make sure nothing holds us back.

Thank you for everything you do.

Melanie McNeill,

Fundraising Director, Greenpeace UK
