Over fifty years ago, the publication of The Limits of Growth [1] and A
Blueprint for Survival [2] led to the creation of the world's first
ecological political party and my personal journey into green politics.

In 1983, we established the Green Party of Canada, and I became the first
leader.

Back then, we knew ecological crises were on the horizon. Today we are
living on the verge of several climate tipping points [3], and in what
environmental author George Monbiot calls "the sixth great Earth systems
collapse [4]." These crises are the result of "business as usual" policies
pursued by parties of all stripes.

Only the Green Party of Canada, and its fellow Green parties around the
world, have consistently argued against "business as usual" and advocated
for policies that prioritize the planet and people first.

Today, more than ever, we need a strong Green Party-an influential voice in
Parliament and society to champion green policies, to form or take part in
government, and drive the changes we so desperately need.

But that takes money, which is why I am appealing to you. On the 40th
anniversary of the founding of the Green Party of Canada, will you give $40
a month [5] (or just once), $400 [5], or even $1,400 [5]?

Your donation, no matter the size, is a meaningful investment in a more
healthy, just, and sustainable future-for our children, grandchildren, and
all living beings-all our relations-around the world who share this planet
that is our home.
