Hey Friend,

“If you don’t affirm your child, your child is going to kill themself”

These words effectively changed the life of young Isabelle Ayala, who detransitioned in 2020. After suffering horrific sexual abuse as a child, Isabelle felt like she was in the wrong body. She discovered the transgender community on the internet at 11 years old. After a hospitalization, she says doctors sat her parents down and said, “If you don’t affirm your child, your child is gonna kill themself.’”

Her parents, fearing for her life and safety, listened to doctors. Almost immediately, she began testosterone after what was allegedly only a forty-five minute assessment.

“I was not told how this was gonna affect me three, five, ten years down the line,” Isabelle told IWF in an exclusive documentary. Dr. Jason Rafferty, who allegedly prescribed her testosterone, also doubled as her psychiatrist until she moved away from Rhode Island. When she moved back to Florida with her family, he allegedly sent her back with a year's worth of testosterone prescriptions. Isabelle said he didn’t bother to give her a single phone call.
The testosterone did nothing to help her other unchecked mental health issues. Approximately eight months after starting testosterone, Isabelle recounts her dad walking in on her trying to hang herself. She attempted suicide due to what she describes as a lack of care for her underlying conditions. Finally, in 2020, Isabelle quit testosterone cold turkey and began her detransition journey. Because of her health issues caused by the effects of testosterone, Isabelle is left paying for everything from doctors appointments to laser hair removal.

“I was a physically healthy kid. If I was just evaluated a little more this would have never happened. But it took [the doctors] 45 minutes to change my entire life and give me irreversible health issues. I don’t want these doctors to practice anymore. I don’t think they deserve to practice when they ignore the harm they are doing.”
