As the year begins to wind down, I wanted to give you a brief update about what Transparency USA has accomplished in 2023, thanks to your support:
This year, we added 8 more politically important states to our database-- Colorado, Nevada, Alabama, Washington, Illinois, Iowa, South Carolina, and New York! This brings our total coverage to 20 states and more than 70 percent of the U.S. population.
Every day, our data is used by citizens, activists, and journalists to bring transparency and accountability to state politicians. We recently received this note from someone who used our data to prove corruption in a Florida court,
“TransparencyUSA’s search tool revealed a close relationship between an attorney who regularly practices in front of a particularly friendly Florida judge with whom the attorney was closely personally and professionally associated. ...TransparencyUSA’s data showed the close proximity of the attorney with exact donations, dates and events that enabled deeper investigation that would not have been transparent otherwise. There was no hiding the judge’s dishonesty.” ~ Peter M.
On top of this huge win for Florida, earlier this year, we provided data to The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York to aid in their investigation of the Sam Bankman Fried, FTX scandal. Those are just two of the many examples we’ve seen in the last year. There is no question about the need to provide clear, accurate, easy-to-understand information about the money in state politics. This brings me to what’s ahead for 2024.
We are preparing to serve millions of website visitors and thousands of inquiries we are expecting in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. We will import, clean, and display approximately 100 batches of data representing billions of dollars flowing into our states!
As we prepare for this 2024 election cycle, we are equally excited about new opportunities to expand our work and build on our brand credibility and remarkable website traffic. We would appreciate any contribution you can give to help us serve as many people as possible.
