Dear John,

I'm writing this email in the air as I'm flying to Eagle Pass, Texas, the epicenter of the border invasion, to speak to the Mayor and to show several of our other large supporters first hand the completely unacceptable and unimpeded flow of illegal immigration occurring there. I'll be sharing video and more to you on our new action board weekly video update. Be sure to look there next week.

Back in D.C., the tension is so thick it's nearly visible. Pres. Biden is locked in a test of wills with Republicans in Congress. Biden wants funding for Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel, along with more funds to process entries faster at the border. House Republicans demand that H.R. 2, the bill that they passed in May that would STOP THE BORDER CRISIS, be included.

Naturally, NumbersUSA is NEUTRAL about Ukraine funding or any other bill that does not involve immigration. But we believe Republican leaders are right to insist that AMERICA'S BORDERS MUST BE MAINTAINED AND ENFORCED. Given the unprecedented flow of NEARLY 3 MILLION illegal immigrants across our border since Biden took office, it's right to say NO to the President's priorities until new legislation plugs the loopholes in the law that have allowed this administration's Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, to open the floodgates to millions of illegal border crossers. This must be stopped now and we are in the best position in years to do so.

NumbersUSA is the immigration policy leader in the coalition of like-minded groups including the Heritage Foundation and Judicial Watch who have been demanding that the Senate also pass H.R. 2, the comprehensive bill that would fix the border. It already has 31 cosponsors in the Senate! Our coalition issued a letter last week warning Senator negotiators not to trade away key provisions of the bill. The letter reads:

"​As we write, a small group of U.S. Senators are negotiating in secret to craft so-called border security legislation to be included in a future iteration of the Biden Administration's . . . [Ukraine] supplemental funding request. The text of this legislation has been withheld to avoid the scrutiny of fellow lawmakers and organizations like ours who are committed to actually securing the border.

It also stated:

"Even more concerning, those crafting this bargain have already stated publicly that their policy prescriptions fall far short of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, which we believe is the bare minimum required to regain control of America's southern border. By passing H.R. 2, the House has done what is necessary to secure the border. Moreover, almost every Republican Senator voted in favor of that bill in June, when it was offered as an amendment to an unrelated bill. There is no reason Members of the House and Senate should accept anything less than the provisions of H.R. 2. Watering down its provisions, simply as a means of obtaining enough votes for other policy priorities should not guide the Senate's efforts here. The goal should be to end this border crisis."

This letter is spot on because NumbersUSA helped make sure your voice is heard! It would be folly for Senators to accept less than what is needed to actually fix the border crisis and stop this unprecedented border crisis. H.R. 2 is a bill that NumbersUSA went to the mat for and that you, our valued activist members, pushed the House of Representatives to pass. And it is the solution to the calamity of our southern border.

As a brief reminder, here are key things H.R. 2 will do:

* Close loopholes in the parole process and end the catch and release into the United States of over half of those who are apprehended;
* Stop asylum fraud so that the United States can assist those who are truly persecuted and at risk of death if they return to their nation;
* Require the Administration to detain, remove, or have illegal entrants return to the country they arrived from while they await their proceedings ("Remain in Mexico");
* Require those who travel through safe countries on the way to the United States to have applied for asylum in those countries first;
* Mandate E-Verify for every employer in the U.S. to ensure jobs are not stolen by illegal aliens;
* Give States standing to sue the Executive Branch (the Biden administration) to ensure that it enforces the immigration laws made by Congress.
This is what America needs. This is what Congress must demand!
