Texas is in the news this week for all the wrong reasons, John. The world is watching the devastating effects of our state's extreme near-total abortion ban and the unthinkably tragic situation it has put Texas women in.

Look – I know our state, and I know Texans. We are proud believers in freedom, and we have a long history of wanting to be left alone. Being forced to carry an unviable pregnancy to term or having to flee your home state to get the emergency health care you need is NOT freedom.

But that's exactly what's happening right now because extremists like Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott, and Ken Paxton think they have the right to interfere with women's health care decisions.

This cruel and extreme abortion ban – and the far-right politicians who support it – does not represent who we are as Texans. That's a major part of why I'm running to replace Ted Cruz in the Senate. All Texas women deserve access to lifesaving reproductive care at home, and when I'm elected, I'll work to codify abortion rights at the federal level.
