The student loan payment process was supposed to be streamlined post-pandemic, but navigating the system has instead become more complex and challenging. Recently, student loan servicer, MOHELA neglected to send timely billing statements to over 2.5 million borrowers, causing 800,000 to miss their payments and become delinquent. This can ruin lives and futures, and it’s just one example of systemic failures that continuously plague student loan services.

This was not an isolated incident. The entire student loan system is fraught with similar issues, with borrowers waiting hours on hold to find out how much they owe, what day their first payment is due, or to make an early payment to avoid paying interest. Time and time again, borrowers are left to bear the brunt of servicers' mistakes.
