Donald Trump wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which would strip health insurance away from about 40 million Americans. And he's making it a central part of his 2024 campaign.
With the support of MAGA Republicans like Speaker Mike Johnson, Donald Trump is doubling down on dismantling the health care law they've been working to repeal for years. If they win next year, Republicans will push to underfund, defund, and ultimately repeal this life-changing legislation.
Let's be clear – if Republicans repeal the ACA, here's what that means for millions who depend on it:
- An estimated 40 million Americans will lose their health insurance.
- Patients could again be subject to annual and lifetime dollar limits on coverage – meaning once they hit their maximum, insurance companies will no longer pay for life-saving treatments or prescription drugs.
- Americans with pre-existing conditions like cancer, heart disease, asthma, diabetes, and more could now be denied coverage.
- Preventive services like contraception, breast cancer screenings, well-woman exams, and more might not be covered.
To repeal the Affordable Care Act, they need to retain their majority in the House, win the presidency, and take back the Senate. And we know all three are going to come down to razor thin margins.
Everyone should have access to affordable health care. Anything MAGA Republicans do to strip people of their right to access high-quality, affordable health care and prevention services is unacceptable.
