Hello, Friends —

This week has been like no week I have ever experienced in Congress, where we are working to ensure that Americans stay safe and healthy. The recent outbreak of coronavirus should not cause you to panic, but it is extremely important to be prepared and well-informed. Please take all necessary precautions, such as those recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. This will minimize your chance of catching this serious illness.

SAD NEWS FOR THE DISTRICT

Last weekend, Florida’s First District saw its first fatality due to COVID-19.

I was extremely saddened to hear the news about the virus taking the life of a Santa Rosa County resident. Our prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

It is important to note that this individual was quarantined shortly after developing symptoms, thus greatly minimizing any potential transmission to others. Please continue to take necessary precautions to minimize your exposure to this (and any) illness. I am confident that our community will continue to remain vigilant in combating this disease, and pray there will be no further contractions of the virus in Northwest Florida.

TEMPORARY SELF-QUARANTINE

Early this week, I received news that I had been in contact with an individual who contracted the virus, and then attended CPAC, where I spoke. I was made aware of the situation while on Air Force One with the President. Immediately, and for the rest of the flight, I moved to an empty part of Air Force One and was tested as soon as I landed. Luckily, the test turned out to be negative; the President was not endangered. For the remainder of the week, I self-quarantined, in order to make sure that the 14-day period had passed without me showing any symptoms.

ADDRESS FROM POTUS

On Wednesday evening, President Trump delivered an address from the Oval Office regarding coronavirus. He announced a temporary travel ban from European countries — a strong move by the president to contain and minimize the further spread of the virus.

If you happen to have a loved one in Europe, don’t worry. If your loved one is a citizen of the United States, they will not be affected by the travel ban.

NATIONAL EMERGENCY

On Friday, President Trump declared a national emergency due to coronavirus.

I urge everyone, especially seniors, to stay indoors and avoid large crowds. Please make sure to take the necessary precautions, and follow the instructions provided in the graphics below.
