Rise to the challenge to defend brave young women like Selina!

Dear John,
The 55-meter dash often looks like a blur. Track athletes hardly take a breath before finishing the race with just hundredths of a second between them.
But that wasn’t what high school sprinter Selina Soule experienced earlier this year at the Connecticut indoor state championships. Instead, Selina watched as two competitors crossed the finish line in the girls’ 55-meter dash well ahead of the pack.
What was different about Selina’s race that day was that the two athletes who blew away the female competition are biological males.
John, science and common sense tell us that there are real physical differences between men and women. That’s why we have women’s sports.
But if activists have their way, girls will soon end up on the sidelines of their own sports.

Selina is taking a brave stand for female athletes everywhere
Since 2017, Connecticut has allowed biological males who identify as girls to compete in high school women’s sports.
And these male athletes don’t just compete—they win.
In track and field, two male athletes have taken 15 women’s championship titles that were previously held by nine different girls.
It’s no surprise that men run faster than women, John. It isn’t because males train more. It’s because they have more muscle mass, greater bone size, and even more heart and lung capacity.
Female athletes like Selina devote countless days, nights, and weekends to training in order to shave mere fractions of a second off their race times. But now it doesn’t matter.
When Selina steps up to the starting blocks at the beginning of a race, she knows that the odds are against her.
“It’s just really frustrating and heartbreaking… We have no chance of winning [against boys].”
John, this isn’t “progress.” And it’s not fair.
That’s why Selina decided to take action—not only for herself, but for the hundreds of other girls subject to this unfair policy.
With the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, she and two other female athletes filed a Title IX complaint with the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights asking it to investigate this illegal discrimination.

These policies discriminate against women and destroy their athletic opportunities
Selina placed eighth in the race that day—just one spot away from qualifying for the 55-meter final and two spots from qualifying for the New England regional championships. And because of that, she also lost a chance to run in front of college scouts.
As an athlete, it can be disappointing to narrowly miss a goal—to be one spot out of medaling or a hundredth of a second off a qualifying time.
But this was different.
Selina had not simply been outrun by seven other girls. She had been outrun by only five other girls. First and second place were taken by two biological males.
If those male athletes weren’t in the race, Selina would’ve had the chance to run in front of the college scouts—and perhaps get offered a scholarship.
John, if you knew you couldn’t win—what incentive would you have to compete or to give up all of your free time to train? Selina’s continued dedication to her sport is a testament to a determination far beyond her years. And the choice to speak up on behalf of her fellow female athletes is admirable.
But the decision to take a public stand hasn’t come without its challenges.
Selina has been harassed on social media and has faced possible retaliation from some of her coaches. Even her state’s largest newspaper has taken the side of the male athletes, saying “the greater risk to fairness is to exclude someone from a sport because of their gender identity.”
Can you believe that, John?
Activists want you to believe that the fair thing to do is to let men beat women in female athletic competitions!
It shouldn’t fall on the shoulders of a 16-year-old like Selina to speak truth and convince people how damaging these policies are for women and girls. But these are the times we’re living in.
And for athletes like Selina, every boy on the podium means one fewer girl on the podium. Every female college scholarship given to a male athlete means one more girl robbed of her dream to compete at the next level.
