Hi John,

Last week, New York State legislators concluded their business for the year and returned to their districts having helped push through several victories that advocates have been fighting for for years: housing justice, voting reforms, drivers licenses for immigrants and the farmworkers' bill of rights. The legislature had one of the most productive legislative sessions in recent memory. But when it came to transforming education, our children and their schools were left behind — especially for Black, Brown and low-income children. Tell your legislator that education justice must be at the top of their agenda in 2020.

The new Democratic-controlled legislature failed to deliver on fully funding the Foundation Aid in the 2019 state budget. The #SolutionsNotSuspensions bill, which would have addressed the school-to-prison pipeline and limited suspensions that target students of color, students with disabilities and LGBTQ students, failed to make it to the floor for a vote in either chamber.

It's time for New York's legislators to prioritize our children. It's time to invest in the schools our children need and deserve. Racial justice is education justice. Investing in students and their future is the key to lasting, transformational change. All children, regardless of race, income or immigration status should have access to a high quality education. This must be the top priority of state elected officials when they return to Albany.

Tell your legislator that education justice must be at the top of their agenda in 2020.

We who believe in freedom will not rest until it's won!
