DCPS fails to show up for bargaining session with WTU

Representatives of the Washington Teachers’ Union and DC Public Schools (DCPS) were scheduled to come to the table on Tuesday to negotiate the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement for thousands of public school teachers.
However, neither DCPS Chancellor Lewis D. Ferebee nor any other central office representative showed up at the Office of Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining in Northwest to participate in the discussions.
"If [the chancellor and other administrators] were teachers they would lose their jobs because they would lose core professionalism points," said Chrystal Puryear, a teacher of 24 years, in reference to DCPS's controversial IMPACT teacher evaluation system. Read more »

WMATA proposes drastic cuts to budget and services

Metro proposed a budget Tuesday with service cuts officials say would make the transit system “unrecognizable” and have a devastating economic impact on the region. On the table are across-the-board service cuts, the elimination of nearly half of all current Metrobus routes, fare hikes, layoffs, and salary and hiring freezes.
"The books cannot be balanced on the backs of working class people," ATU Local 689 said in a statement. "We must not turn a world-class mass transit system into a mid grade commuter service. We need dedicated funding now. Read more »

After historic walkout, Washington Post management agrees to bargain with Post Guild
|
Last week more than 700 Washington Post staffers walked off the job, a historic work stoppage to protest stalled union contract negotiations.
Today the Guild shared that, "As a result of last week's historic strike, we're headed back to the bargaining table." The Guild gives special thanks to all the allied unions who joined last week's picket, including many Metro Washington Council Affiliate unions.

BLET members ratify new collective bargaining agreement with Amtrak
|
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) members ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with Amtrak. The new seven-year agreement was approved by 73% of voting members. The contract provides full retroactive payments dating to July 1, 2022, and will run through 2028. Read more »
