Reflecting on 2023, I’m feeling allll the feels. Gratitude. Pride. And a real sense of awe. This community of compassionate individuals—from the United States, to Africa, to the United Kingdom and beyond—drove sweeping positive change across our food system this year. We went up against multi-billion-dollar industries and won—through the sheer force of people power. Most importantly, we made real improvements in the lives of millions of animals.
When this community comes together for the animals, I really do believe anything is possible. Check out our video reflecting on this amazing year! And in the meantime, let’s look back on some of the highlights…

In 2023, you protected millions of hens from cruel, archaic battery cages. 🐔
When we set an ambitious goal to spare 6.7 million hens from cages this year, you showed up in a big way. You successfully pressured the parent companies of brands like Kellogg’s, PepsiCo, Burger King, Popeyes, KFC, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and more to follow through on their promises to end cages. So far, you’ve spared over 5.4 million hens from battery cages—and the year’s not over yet. Companies are still feeling the pressure from thousands of supporters like you. Watch this space for the final count!
You took over 273K actions demanding better for animals. ☎️
So far this year, changemakers like you have taken a whopping 273,248 actions calling out the corporate bullies that are making billions off of unacceptable animal abuse. You raised your voices for the voiceless—declaring that cruelty has no place in our food system. That’s 273,248 calls for compassion. 273,248 people speaking up for the most vulnerable beings on the planet. 273,248 votes for a kinder world.
You fought for laws protecting pigs, chickens, and cows from extreme confinement. 🐖
When the pig industry challenged the world’s strongest animal welfare law, Proposition 12, in front of the Supreme Court—we joined our allies in defending it, and we won! When the pig industry began pushing dangerous legislation to overturn this landmark victory, you mobilized on behalf of countless pigs, cows, and chickens. To date, supporters like you have sent over 40,000 comments to legislators demanding an end to the extreme confinement of animals.
In 2023, you proved that kindness can change the world. 🌎
Thanks to you—your compassion, your actions, and your dedication—millions of animals can breathe a little easier this year. Looking ahead to 2024, I have no doubt that we’ll make even more incredible progress toward a kinder world for all beings. When it comes to what this movement can accomplish, the sky is truly the limit.
Cheers to an amazing year!
For the animals, always—
