As the festive season approaches, we want to say thank you for being a part
of the ARTICLE 19 community this year.

We work tirelessly to ensure that everyone can freely express themselves
and actively engage in public life without fear of discrimination.

NEW PODCAST LAUNCHES

This year we released two podcasts. At the start of the year, we launched
TAMING THE TITANS – our podcast looking at Big Tech and human rights,
hosted by journalist EMILY HART.

This summer, we also launched TECHTONIC, hosted by tech reporter CHRIS
STOKEL-WALKEr, on freedom of expression online and the impact that Big Tech
and social media have on our lives.

BRAZIL OFFICE ANNIVERSARY

In a debate celebrating 15 years of ARTICLE 19’s BRAZIL AND SOUTH AMERICA
OFFICE, journalists, artists, and activists discussed freedom of expression
in the Amazon region, tackling racism, the challenges posed by Big Tech and
by Brazil’s legal system, Brazil’s media landscape, and protecting
human rights defenders.

In May, the office was also invited to join Brazil’s Council for
Transparency, Integrity and Combating Corruption, with the aim of improving
and promoting policies for the public good.

SOCIAL MEDIA 4 PEACE

In its second year, ARTICLE 19, under the UNESCO project Social Media 4
Peace funded by the European Union, celebrated the establishment of local
coalitions in Kenya, Indonesia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina to address the
challenges global tech giants pose to local communities.

We also launched the content moderation and freedom of expression handbook
[7], a valuable resource for civil society and other stakeholders who are
involved in content moderation issues.
