Friend,
All New Yorkers deserve a livable future with clean air and water, protection from disaster, resilient and high-quality affordable housing – no matter where we come from or how much money we make.
But we’re facing two massive, overlapping crises that are blocking us from achieving a livable New York: climate chaos and an ongoing housing emergency. More and more families are struggling to afford skyrocketing rent and homelessness is at record highs, and at the same time we’re experiencing escalating climate-fueled disasters like wildfires and extreme flooding.
Real estate power players and fossil fuel billionaires are profiting from displacing our neighbors and polluting our communities, but we can fight back and build the livable future we deserve.
We have no time to waste. Building a better future for New York and avoiding climate catastrophe means we must cut climate-heating pollution 40% by 2030.
Right now, buildings generate 40% of New York State’s climate-heating pollution. By transitioning all buildings off of fossil fuels and investing in the production of deeply affordable green housing, we can cut pollution, house everyone in New York State, and put our communities to work in good union jobs.
We need a major state government push to transition all buildings to renewable energy, build quality mixed-income housing, and create tens of thousands of green jobs. We can achieve this by demanding that our political leaders make the ultrarich pay what they owe so we can save lives from climate catastrophe and provide safe, resilient green housing to all New Yorkers.
Add your name now to tell our state leaders to tax the rich to build affordable green housing, fight the climate crisis, and create good union jobs.
Together, we’re going to create a more livable future for every New Yorker.
Thanks for being in the fight with us,
NY Communities for Change
