#ChangeTheStory into 2024

and leave VAWG in the past

White Ribbon Day 2023 Memories
This White Ribbon Day, we asked you to #ChangeTheStory for women and girls -- and the positive response to this call to action has been incredible. You attended workplace conferences, webinars, and training, as well as raised awareness in your communities through Parkruns, evening vigils, market stalls and fundraising activities.

We saw White Ribbons in many public spaces too – from big boards in city centres, on trains, across social media, in stadiums and even on rail ticket machine screens.

#ChangeTheStory was an important message for us all this year, with November 2023 being one year since the Istanbul Convention came into force in the UK. The Istanbul Convention is the most comprehensive legal framework that exists to tackle violence against women and girls. It sets minimum standards for governments to meet when tackling violence against women. Importantly for White Ribbon UK, one of the pillars of the Convention focuses on the importance of violence prevention. The Convention calls for social and cultural change, engaging individuals, and especially men and boys, to actively prevent harmful attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate violence against women and girls.

In your workplaces and community, you have brought what this means to life by starting conversations about the root causes of gender-based violence and encouraging reflection and active allyship amongst men.

#ChangeTheStory was supported by many people in many different places. Below are just a few, and more can be found in our White Ribbon Day recap video -- a non-exhaustive look back at how the #ChangeTheStory campaign came to life in towns and cities across the UK.

As we look forward into the new year, we hope everyone will make ending men's violence against women and girls a priority and encourage everyone to wear a White Ribbon any day of the year, not only on the 25th November.
