Big Oils Favorite Climate Change Solution This year’s United Nations climate summit will be the biggest in history–and the first held in a major petrostate. Host United Arab Emirates wants to bring the fossil fuel industry into the climate fold, but to make that happen requires wide deployment of carbon capture and storage. Proponents argue the new technology could help preserve the energy security of fossil fuels without the emissions. Critics say it’s unproven at scale and a convenient fig leaf for Big Oil. WorkWorkWorkWorkWorkFacts vs. Feelings: Limping our way into the fantasy playoffs Trying to project Washington\'s usage trees has been a maddening endeavor. Thomas, however, has had his opportunities. He\'ll get another one when he takes on the Rams this Sunday. Los Angeles has allowed the third-most fantasy points to tight ends. More specifically, the Rams have given up the third-most yards, third-most yards per reception, and seven TDs (tied for the most in the NFL) to the position. Fact is, Thomas hasn\'t found pay or cleared 10 fantasy points since Week 8, so maybe -- and this is just a feeling -- he\'s due! WorkA New Playbook for College Donors: Power Politics Their pressure campaigns have resembled winner-take-all Wall Street investment strategies, threatening to pull their money from schools that have become increasingly beholden to their largest donors. WorkAbortion Ruling Keeps Texas Doctors Afraid of Prosecution “The reason that the difference matters is that it opens up the gate for bringing in competing expert witnesses,” said Ms. Portuondo, the law professor. “The state has its Rolodex of pro-life physicians who will say ‘I don’t think it is reasonable to perform this abortion.’” WorkWorkSenate Passes Defense Bill, Steering Clear of Far-Right Policy Dictates Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate have championed the bill as a fair compromise that prioritizes competition with adversaries and demonstrates support for allies. Some argued that was a particularly important message to send the world at a time when global threats are mounting — particularly considering that Republicans have blocked congressional efforts to approve tens of billions of dollars in emergency military aid for Ukraine and Israel, insisting it be paired with a crackdown on migration at the U.S. border with Mexico. But the two men, Michael Green, 50, and Byron Bolden, 37, who had pleaded not guilty, contended that the value of the items was $1,856.19, because some of the goods, including at least one of the mixers, were on sale, said Thomas A. Ramunda Jr., Mr. Bolden’s lawyer. That would classify the charge as a misdemeanor. WorkEducation Dept. Is Investigating Six More Colleges Over Campus Discrimination On Saturday, the president of the University of Pennsylvania, M. Elizabeth Magill, resigned four days after she went before Congress and appeared to evade the question of whether students who called for the genocide of Jews should be punished. Harvard’s board has since rebuffed similar calls for its president, Claudine Gay, to step down. WorkWorkDemocrats Seize on Texas Case in Push for Abortion Rights “It is absolutely unacceptable that women have to ask permission to get lifesaving health care,” said Ashley All, who helped run a campaign for an abortion-rights ballot measure in Kansas and urges Democrats to push legislation codifying abortion rights in federal law. “The fact that we aren’t making some sort of effort nationally to fix that problem is frustrating.” WorkWorkTrump and His Allies Descend on Iowa During his keynote address at a gala for the New York Young Republican Club, Mr. Trump confirmed that he “wanted to be a dictator” for a day, only to build a border wall and drill for oil. He called the suggestion that he would be a threat to democracy Democrats’ “newest hoax.” WorkWorkWorkSupreme Court Will Hear Challenge to Abortion Pill Access But it rolled back regulations governing the pill, to before 2016. In the years since, the agency made changes that broadened access to the drug. Under those pre-2016 rules, mifepristone must be prescribed only by a doctor and picked up in person. Patients also had to visit a doctor three times during the abortion process. But after the report, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) dismissed the report as“false.” Billionaire investor Ron Baron pegged the timeline for Starlink’s IPO to be around 2027—a prediction Musk has neither confirmed nor denied. WorkNoncompete agreements don’t just hurt the workers who sign them Four US states—California, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Oklahoma—have banned noncompetes, and New York’s state legislature passed a bill earlier this year outlawing their use. The measure is awaiting the signature of Governor Kathy Hochul, who has until the end of the year to pass or veto it. WorkWorkWorkChicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget review – sequel soars above the original There is also a slyly subversive edge to proceedings. The corporate Fun-Land Farms compound is more sinister than the Tweedys\' crumbling farm was, and, for all its wackiness, the film includes frequent reminders of the reality of modern industrialised meat processing. Most viewers should be cock-a-hoop, although shareholders of certain fast-food franchises might wish that plans for a Chicken Run sequel had never been hatched. WorkWorkWorkName that whale!
