Team,

Facing a public health emergency like COVID19, it is unacceptable that our Congressman isn’t acting with the urgency this issue deserves.

We do not have testing capacity during a pandemic due to shortsighted decisions to drain the resources of the federal agencies designed for just this kind of emergency. That required immediate action months ago, in late January.

And we’ve watched as Roger Williams has enabled a President who doesn't know what he's doing, and has put his own political career and this President’s interests before the people of Texas again and again. Now Donald Trump's recklessness and unpreparedness around COVID-19 have caused serious damage to our economy, and have endangered thousands of lives.

But instead of stepping up, working around the clock, listening to experts, and implementing a coordinated federal response to support the medical community, Roger Williams and Donald Trump have been putting partisanship before the people of Texas and this country. This moment doesn’t call for half-measures and ill-informed, unscientific travel bans and tax cuts for the rich and bailouts for the fossil fuel industry -- which Williams and Trump strongly supported. In this moment, working people are going to need real relief.

I got in this race because communities in the most uninsured state in the country need a real voice -- someone who knows firsthand what it's like to struggle to afford healthcare, and understands the necessity of preserving and expanding programs like Medicaid.

The crisis we find ourselves in today demands leaders who will champion policies that help working families and who we can trust to advocate for accessible, affordable healthcare.

There’s a path to ensuring that this district has someone fighting for them in their seat -- but we’re going to need to keep working hard. I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t think it was important.

Thank you,

Julie
