Indigenous people, women, LGBTQIA+ communities, Black and Afrodescendent people, and landless people are often threatened and physically attacked while defending their ways of life, ancestral lands, and territories. Many face mental and emotional trauma as a result of the repression they face. Resourcing and uplifting healing justice work — in the face of violence and repression of grassroots movements — is one of Grassroots International’s priorities. Join us, to support the collective healing and wellbeing of communities that are, at great risk, working to defend their lives and sovereignty.
One example of healing justice work that Grassroots International has supported, through a grant from the Martín-Baró Initiative for Wellbeing and Human Rights, is the CURCUM Collective. This Collective, a coalition of Indigenous Palestinian activists and organizations, recently helped to create a powerful decolonial healing guide, which they published ahead of schedule and made free to all in October, after the escalation of violence in Gaza and throughout Palestine.
Grassroots International also recently hosted a Solidarity Encounter on Healing Justice in Black Feminist and Palestinian Liberation Movements with Dr. Devin Atallah of the CURCUM Collective along with adrienne maree brown, and Ayman Nijim and Trina Jackson of Grassroots International. One of the questions posed at this Encounter is whether and how it makes sense to talk about healing when violence is still being waged. We encourage you to watch the recording of this powerful session and hear the speakers’ reflections on this topic. We show up for the movements that are at the forefront of healing justice. Will you affirm your commitment to healing justice and liberation and make a bold contribution to our #WeShowUp End of Year Fundraising Campaign?
