** Jake Tapper Makes the Point
------------------------------------------------------------
On Sunday’s “State of the Union" show CNN anchor Jake Tapper compared Palestinians to white supremacists as he discussed the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio ([link removed]) .

Tapper passed up a more to-the-point opportunity to mention Israeli and American government officials who routinely spew racist, anti-Arab, Islamophobic and xenophobic rhetoric to demonize “the other,” which like white nationalism is also on the rise. (See “Leaders Who Dehumanize Cross the Threshold ([link removed]) ,” Washington Report October 2018.

Two days after Tapper’s “State of the Union” show, on Aug. 6, Temple University’s Klein College of Media and Communication announced that it will honor Tapper with the school’s most prestigious media award, “Temple’s Lew Klein Excellence in Media Award.”

If executive producer Sut Jhally decides to make “The Occupation of the American Mind: Part Two,” this Tapper incident will fit in perfectly. As Taher Herzallah of American Muslims for Palestine remarked during the controversial screening of that film in Takoma Park, (See “Takoma Park Withstands Pressure to Cancel ‘Occupation of the American Mind ([link removed]) ” Washington Report August/September 2019) those who denounced the documentary and Herzallah's attendance on the panel after the screening prove the point of the film. Jake Tapper and his fans drive that point home.
