More than 30% of people in the Dominican Republic live in poverty. When it comes to basic needs, they get what they can afford.

The choice often comes down to medicine or a meal. ([link removed] )

Children are especially vulnerable because they depend on others for food and health care. Malnutrition puts their physical and mental well-being at risk. More than half of Dominican students don’t complete their primary or secondary education on time.
