Folks, ever since I was first elected to the Senate in 2012, my highest priority has always been to stand for what’s right — and today marks an important day in that fight.
One year ago today, the Respect for Marriage Act was signed into law.
This historic legislation, which I was proud to introduce in Congress, protects marriage equality for same-sex and interracial couples under federal law. But this progress didn’t just happen overnight. It was a long time in the making.
We can celebrate wins like the historic one we achieved last year when the Respect for Marriage Act became law, but we can’t lose sight of the fight that still lies ahead of us — not now or anytime soon.
As we speak, Republicans in state legislatures across the country are working relentlessly to advance a wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. The 2023 legislative session has seen hundreds of bills designed to roll back LGBTQ+ rights, particularly targeting transgender youth.
Our Democratic Senate majority is the only thing standing in the way of the GOP’s anti-LGBTQ+ power trip and their extremist, hateful agenda.
That’s why I’m humbly asking you to honor the one year anniversary of the Respect for Marriage Act by pitching in to help me keep Wisconsin blue and defend our Democratic Senate majority. Our freedoms depend on it:
