Help us in advocating for transit riders like you!

*Adapted from last week's message from our Executive Director, Vinita Goyal. Please note that the date for our general meeting has been CHANGED to Wednesday, January 24th, 2024.

Dear SFTR Members,

We advocates are the bridge builders between policymakers and residents and riders. We ensure that when policymakers bring resources to our communities, they serve real needs. And we center the leadership of our communities in elevating those rider needs.

I am super appreciative of our members for your generous support as well as for your direct advocacy and leadership in making our collective wins possible. Please consider donating to San Francisco Transit Riders again for our End-of-the-Year campaign that will run through January 15, 2024, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so that we can continue to be successful in centering the needs of riders in transit policies and investments in the coming year.

Capping our fundraising drive this year will be our member meeting scheduled for January 24th, 2024. Please hold the date as an opportunity to get together and to participate in strategic updates, brainstorming, and the SFTR board officers’ election. More details to follow soon.

With gratitude,

Vinita Goyal

Executive Director, San Francisco Transit Riders

Don't just take it from us! Let's see what the media said about SFTR this year!

Better Buses Needed in Bayview-Hunters Point

By Roger Rudick

"In late October last year, SFTR organized a forum with residents in coordination with our partners, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Walk SF as part of our campaign for Prop L that re-authorized a half-cent sales tax for transit. Residents in the Bayview spoke vehemently about a need for better and safer road and bus infrastructure overall, including much needed improvement in paratransit."

Muni: Head for the hills — while you still can

By Adam Shanks

"Vinita Goyal, executive director of nonprofit advocacy group San Francisco Transit Riders, lauded Muni for making cuts through an equity lens during the pandemic, but noted “equity” neighborhoods were already underserved by public transit."

Rise of the Robotaxis: How Autonomous Vehicles Could Reshape Transportation in San Francisco

Hosted by Alexis Madrigal

Featuring Dylan Fabris, Annabel Chang, Dan Chatman, and Kevin Truong

"Driverless vehicles from autonomous ride services Cruise and Waymo can already be found all over San Francisco, and they may soon become much more common if a state commission grants them permission to expand operations. Some local officials argue the technology isn’t ready, pointing to recent examples of automated cars that stopped on roads, obstructing traffic or emergency responders."

Facing uncertain future, Bay Area agencies, advocates kick off Transit Month

By Jerold Chinn

"Despite challenges facing Bay Area transit agencies, including projected budget deficits, transit advocates kicked off Transit Month in San Francisco with city leaders at City Hall."
