At the NYIC, we know that systemic change requires more than a one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why we take the fight for immigrant justice to every level of government and every corner of the state. When we achieve a policy win, the NYIC and our members are ready to act fast and make sure that the victories we achieve translate into real change for immigrant communities.
In 2023, we celebrated major wins alongside our coalition, but I’d like to focus on just one today - the redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans, Afghans, and Cameroonians. This policy change unlocked urgently-needed resources for tens of thousands of New Yorkers and their families, and the NYIC was there to make sure those resources made it to where they were needed most.
Now, we are fighting to ensure that ALL of our newest neighbors, including those without TPS protection, have access to the accessible, inclusive resources and support that they need to thrive. This means offering resources in every language spoken by our communities, making sure that support is available in every corner of our state, and continuing the fight for policies that leave no one behind.
In this season of giving and receiving, we appreciate the support of individuals like you. Thank you for being a part of our community.
Happy Holidays,
Meredith Fortin, Senior Director of Programs
