Dear John,
It has been another memorable year of light and learning at the National Constitution Center. In this season of bringing people together, I’m writing to ask you to consider a special year-end gift to support our meaningful work of inspiring constitutional education and modeling civil dialogue for all.
Your support will help us provide the answer to America’s civics crisis with our nonpartisan educational programming and resources, relied on by hundreds of thousands of students, teachers, and learners of all ages. Next fall, we will launch a Constitution 101 course with Khan Academy, reaching millions with conversational videos from constitutional experts. We are also developing a new version of Constitution 101 for 5th–8th graders that intends to fill the gap in civics education and engage middle schoolers at this important stage of development.
Our new First Amendment gallery opened in September, inspiring visitors to understand our core freedoms. Through your generosity, we will share the gallery and our other featured exhibits through our virtual tour series, and make life-changing trips possible through initiatives like our Young Citizens Scholarship Program. And with your help, we will continue to reimagine the visitor experience and develop new galleries that tell the story of our constitutional history, like our forthcoming gallery on America’s Founding Principles that will open in time to celebrate America’s birthday in 2026.
Your support also makes possible our America’s Town Hall series and We the People podcasts, subscribed to by hundreds of thousands of listeners eager for reasoned debate featuring a diverse range of voices. Next year, we’ll be taking these meaningful conversations and convenings on the road with the launch of our new NCC Across America initiative. We’ll explore ideas and issues at the heart of the American idea, while building networks of civic leaders and educators who can bring about a shift in public discourse in their local communities and beyond.
I’m excited to share that my new book, The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired the Lives of the Founders and Defined America, will launch on February 13. It explores how the wisdom that guided the founders in their search for a purpose-driven life can offer each of us a fresh understanding of American democracy and inspire our own lifelong pursuit of happiness. I’m looking forward to exploring the ideas in the book with you through a series of events and podcasts, beginning with a book launch at the NCC on February 19.
As America’s 250th birthday approaches in a climate of political polarization, the Center’s work as America’s leading platform for nonpartisan constitutional education and civil dialogue is more urgently needed than ever. With your support, we can keep reaching new audiences, opening minds to new ideas and perspectives, and provide a better way forward, for our students and our country.
Please visit constitutioncenter.org/donate by December 31, and help make 2024 a year of constitutional light and learning for all.
With appreciation,
