We handed our petition in to the government

Dear friend,
Thousands of supporters like you have added their name to our petition calling on the government to support people with the huge amount of energy debt that has built up this year.

6.4 million people are behind on bills, and as the weather gets colder millions across the country will be worried about debts mounting up even further.

That’s why, yesterday, we joined together our friends at Fuel Poverty Action, the Warm This Winter coalition and 38 degrees to deliver a 100,000 strong petition directly to No.10 Downing Street, calling for action to bring down bills permanently and End Energy Debt.

At the end of last month, we heard that bills are going to go up again in January, taking a typical annual bill up to £1,928[1]. It’s high time the government took action to support people with the mountain of energy debt that has built up and made energy affordable for all.

Debt Justice supporter Kay told us:

“Lack of government support and energy company profiteering means that this Christmas I have a choice between going into debt or living in a cold damp home. It is an impossible choice and only government action can solve the crisis.”

And earlier this week the national debt helpline reported that millions will struggle to heat their homes this Christmas.[2]

This is why we’ll carry on campaigning to make sure our voices aren’t ignored. It’s amazing that so many of you have added your name to the campaign.
