Hello Friends of 5 Gyres,

We’re not cleaning up the ocean, but we ARE working on solutions that will reduce the most common microplastic found in the environment – microfibers.

You may not think of the clothing you’re wearing right now as a form of plastic pollution, but plastic microfibers ([link removed]) shed from our clothes when we wear them, wash them, and dry them, ultimately ending up in the environment. And these fibers aren’t limited to just the ocean – they are pervasive in our air, food, water sources, and even our own bodies.

5 Gyres is narrowing the focus on this microscopic polluter through expeditions ([link removed]) and symposiums with experts in the field, policy work ([link removed]) backed by our science that proves filtration is a viable solution ([link removed]) , and joining hands with cause partners in the sustainable fashion space to create a multi-pronged approach to tackle this problem.
