A member of our team is running for State Representative and she needs our support. With control of the Michigan State House now tied 54-54, whoever wins this race will win a majority in the chamber. Re-establishing a Democratic majority in the State House means delivering for working families in Michigan.
Layla Taha, our campaign’s Program Director, is running to ensure everyone has access to quality healthcare, affordable housing, a livable wage, and clean water and air. Layla is a public health advocate and community organizer with an organizing background in voting rights and reproductive freedom. She helped enshrine abortion as a right in our state’s constitution.
If elected as the next Michigan State Representative, Layla will make sure that folks in Lansing prioritize people over profits. As Layla said upon the launch of her campaign:
"In my commitment to justice and equity I am not accepting corporate donations. I believe our elected representatives must be beholden to the people, not wealthy corporations and donors."
Because Layla is running in a special election, she has a short race and residents need to vote by January 30th.
