Hi John,

As an education justice organization, our mission has always been to speak up for the rights of children, especially the most vulnerable. We believe all children, regardless of race or nationality deserve a childhood full of joy, opportunity, and a safe place to call home. We are also an organization that stands unapologetically for freedom, liberation, and human rights.

How will our story be told in the history books? Will our legacy reflect inaction as a silent witness or will history remember our collective action in speaking out against a genocide?

We call for a permanent, lasting ceasefire as the first step of stopping the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Every day, more Palestinians are killed by Israeli airstrikes and ground operations, and starve under its military siege. It's imperative for the United States to acknowledge its complicity in this matter, not only by advocating for a true ceasefire, but by sustainably working toward a future that brings lasting peace and safety to all the people in the region.

With gratitude to the growing number of members of the House and Senate who demonstrated leadership in calling for a ceasefire, we stand in solidarity with them and the millions endangered by this conflict. Find an up-to-date list of Members of Congress who have called for a ceasefire here. Call your representatives in Congress and urge them to call for a permanent ceasefire and an end to this cycle of occupation and violence for all.

In the wise words of Cynthia Nixon, AQE’s longtime friend and spokesperson: “As the mother of Jewish children whose grandparents were holocaust survivors, I have been asked by my son to use my platform to affirm as loudly as possible that ‘never again’ means never again for anyone. As Americans we need to demand that our President stop funding the killing of thousands upon thousands of innocent Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. We need a permanent ceasefire now to bring the hostages home and end the slaughter of innocent civilians and the starvation of millions more.”

Here are a few current actions you can take:

Our partners at the New York City Coalition for Educational Justice compiled this document with resources for children and families to learn more about Palestinians and their history.

And as a member of the New Yorkers for Racially Just Public Schools coalition, we are also sharing this action to urge New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) to commit to the safety and protection of all, in light of Chancellor Banks' insufficient response and weaponization of policies that are meant to protect students, parents, and school communities from discrimination and harassment.

In solidarity,

The AQE Team
