Dear community of TLC supporters,
I am so proud to lead Transgender Law Center's legal team as we leverage legal expertise to advance trans self-determination, and I hope you will make a year-end gift today to invest in all of TLC's work, including our innovative, community-driven legal efforts [[link removed]].
Every year we litigate 10+ impact cases, and here are just a few of our 2023 legal highlights:
-Sued the State of Texas to stop SB14, the state’s unconstitutional medical care ban that endangers trans youth, infringes on the rights of parents, and threatens doctors.
-Won our case challenging criminalization of self-defense: our client, a Black trans woman in Tennessee, was initially charged with second-degree murder when she fought for her life against the person who trafficked her into sex work—all charges dropped and record expunged.
-Filed a new lawsuit in Tennessee challenging HIV criminalization, which disproportionately impacts trans people living with HIV.
-We also continue to make critical legal information more accessible: each year our legal helpdesk responds to 2,000+ inquiries, about 1/3 coming from trans community members who are incarcerated.
I hope you’ll consider renewing your support of TLC before December 31st or joining us as a donor for the first time [[link removed]].
