My name is Aquilino Gonell. I am a former U.S. Capitol Police Sergeant —
and I almost died at the hands of insurrectionists on January 6, 2021.

My whole life, I worked hard to achieve the American Dream. I came to the
United States when I was 12 years old, joined the U.S. Army, and later
became a police officer — all in the name of defending this country and
our Constitution.

But on January 6, 2021, at the hands of rioters incited by people like
Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz, and Jim Jordan, I was violently attacked.
Sprayed with bear mace. Beaten and bruised. Called a traitor.

John, I thought I
was going to die on that day.

But I kept fighting — to defend our country and our democracy because my
sense of duty was so strong.

I sustained severe mental, physical, and moral injuries. I needed two
separate surgeries after defending our country from insurrectionists.

I testified about that day in front of Adam Schiff and the House Select
Committee on the January 6 Attack.

I spoke about the attacks and insults I faced — because that day should
never be forgotten and those who attacked the U.S. Capitol deserve to be
brought to justice.

And Adam Schiff fought relentlessly to reveal the truth about the January
6th insurrection and to make sure that those who incited violence against
our country are held to account.

That’s why I am proud to support Adam’s campaign for the United States
Senate — because in the face of attacks and name-calling, he has stood
with us. He doesn’t back down from the fight. He will do what it takes to
defend our country, our Constitution, and our democracy.

We need Adam in the Senate — because if there is a repeat of the January 6
attacks, will Republican elected officials help the officers secure the
Capitol, or will they prevent officers from securing the doors from those
trying to cause harm?

Adam and I have kept our oath, defended the Constitution, and stood up for
everyone in the building during and after the insurrection. Meanwhile,
Trump called the rioters patriots. I know what side I’m on — do you?
