Dear Friend,
I wanted to send you a quick email in light of growing concern about the Coronavirus. I know that this can be a time of great fear and concern, so I wanted to offer some hopefully helpful suggestions and give you a brief update about how our campaign is handling this issue.
First of all, this is not a time for us to panic, but rather a time for us to plan and make smart decisions. At this time, our campaign team is working with local public health officials to evaluate the safety of upcoming events with a focus on protecting the health and well-being of our team & community members. Our campaign will continue as planned, but there may be some changes over the next few weeks in terms of events. Keep an eye out on your email and on our social media for specific updates.
In terms of what you can do to keep you and your loved ones healthy: the Centers for Disease Control advises that you wash your hands regularly with soap & water, avoid contact with those who are sick, and stay home yourself if you feel sick or have been advised to do so by a doctor. If you have questions or think you may be sick, you should contact the Missouri Department of Health at their 24-hour Coronavirus hotline number, 877-435-8411.
Many of you have expressed concerns about how Congress is handling this, and I share those concerns. This week, I called upon our elected leaders to take action and pass legislation that protects our families and neighbors. This includes: providing free testing and treatment to everyone, regardless of insurance status; providing funding for emergency paid leave for those who need to stay home; and supporting our already weakened social safety net programs. This is not a time for politics; this is a time for action.
If you share my concerns, I’d invite you to contact your elected officials, which you can find here.
Together, we’ll make it through this.
Best,
Kathy Ellis
