Texan Kate Cox—a woman carrying a non-viable fetus that, with no medical intervention, can result in excruciating pain, possible infertility and even her death—was unable to receive the medical care she needed under Texas law. She petitioned the state for an abortion.

After a county court granted a temporary restraining order so Cox could get the medical care she needed, the Texas Attorney General threatened civil and criminal penalties against any doctor or hospital that might try to assist her. After this case made its way through the Texas court system, the state Supreme Court ruled against her. So she left the state to seek the medical care she desperately needed.

Kate Cox is not alone, and abortion bans aren't isolated to Texas. Thirteen other states have abortion bans, two more have bans after six weeks—before a person may even know they are pregnant—and another five have bans between 12-18 weeks.

For far too many, there are barriers that prevent them from traveling to other states to receive proper medical care. That's why Daily Kos is asking you to support abortion funds that provide small grants and/or practical assistance (like housing, transportation, childcare, lodging, and translation services) to people seeking abortion care.
