It’s been a busy week, John! We had back-to-back events for a number of community projects I support here in Idaho Falls.

David poses for a smile with two women attending a Democratic Party holiday gathering. David smiles and poses for a photo with a woman at the Habitat for Humanity board meeting. Attendees of the Democratic Party holiday gathering enjoy food and conversation in a large room with a buffet table and numerous couches.

First up was the Idaho Falls Youth Arts Council holiday celebration. This exceptional nonprofit brings the performing arts to life in our city both by staging productions with local kids in the cast, and by bringing in performances that otherwise would never make it to our neck of the woods. They are now in their third year, and my boys and I have gone every year.

Next came our Habitat for Humanity Board Meeting, where we checked in on important projects underway and talked strategy for the new year. I’ve been a board member of the Idaho Falls Habitat for Humanity chapter for 3 years, and this work is so important to me.

Our biggest project right now is a 100-unit housing co-op under development that will open up so many new affordable homes for families in our community. It’s reminiscent of the first project President Jimmy Carter ever worked on when he launched his work with HFH – a massive housing co-op in New York City.

These homes are desperately needed. Idaho is among the Top Ten for housing costs in the US but we are 44th in income. This project will help young people and struggling families get on their feet with an affordable home that will help them start building real equity.

I am so proud to be a part of the amazing team that is pushing this project forward – despite my opponent Mike Simpson voting AGAINST the federal funding we eventually got from President Biden.

But the last event was easily the most exciting – our Democratic Party holiday gathering and strategic planning session, with a fantastic turnout of nearly 40 people.

Next year is a BIG year for Dems in Idaho. We’ve got folks on the ballot running for everything from president and congress on down to city council and county commissioner.

A collage of two photos from the Democrats holiday party held Saturday night. On the left David is seated and talking with other attendees about the issues they are working to solve. On the right David is talking with Cecile Pérez, candidate for county commissioner.

Historically we’ve had a huge problem with getting enough Democrats to run for every seat here in Idaho, and I’m excited to tell you that is CHANGING.

Inspired by the success of last year’s Democratic campaigns, including my own, my friend Cecile Pérez has thrown her hat into the ring for Bonneville County Commissioner – a seat that often goes UNCHALLENGED.

I’m excited for the opportunity to campaign with other Democrats running for statewide and local office as well as federal, united in our vision for all that Idaho can be.

By working together, we can elect Democrats up and down the ballot and start to turn things around. And it all begins here. Will you pitch in to help me flip this seat next year so we can elect as many Democrats as possible?

Idaho falls about the middle of the pack for voter turnout. The truth is there are MANY more voters here who simply have never been activated because they feel like neither party speaks for them. The Republicans are moving further and further to the hard right, meanwhile national Democrats simply have not invested in a state like ours.

The bad news is that we’re starting at a disadvantage. But the GOOD news is that turning that around is far more affordable than, say, a contested Senate race in Florida.

I’m excited about what we’re building here in Idaho, and I hope you will invest in our work. We need all hands on deck for 2024!

More soon,

David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for almost 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
