A woman in Texas sought an abortion in her home state after learning her fetus was diagnosed with a fatal condition that could threaten her future fertility if the pregnancy continued.

After days of legal whiplash and threats from Texas’ Republican Attorney General, the state’s Supreme Court blocked her from obtaining an abortion — forcing her to leave the state to get the health care she needs.

This cruel system is working exactly as anti-abortion Republicans intended. Ever since their decades-long campaign to restrict reproductive freedom culminated in the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Republicans continue to push forward with their plan to pass a nationwide abortion ban.

That’s why I reintroduced the Women’s Health Protection Act — my bill to protect and restore abortion rights nationwide. I’m fighting my heart out to pass it because every person, regardless of where they live, deserves the right to make their own personal decisions about their health care without interference from far-right judges or politicians.
