The U.S. Supreme Court left an illegal commissioners map in effect in Galveston County, Texas. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals originally ruled that the map violates the Voting Rights Act, but is now reviewing the case again. The Court’s liberal leaning judges dissented from the ruling.

Civil rights groups asked the full 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider a catastrophic decision by a three-judge panel that weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The panel ruled voters cannot sue to enforce the law's most utilized provision, Section 2.

Voters objected to Georgia's new Republican gerrymandered congressional and legislative maps, arguing they clearly violate the court's order to draw districts that comply with the Voting Rights Act. A hearing will be held on the districts on Dec. 20.
