Submit Your Intentions, Dec. 16 Solemn Pontifical High
Mass
Dear Friend,
For the past week, I have mentioned
that His Eminence, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke will celebrate a very
special (and rare) Pontifical High Mass, this Saturday,
December 16 at 11:00 AM Central Time, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La
Crosse, Wisconsin, which will
be shown live on EWTN. You may watch the entire High Mass from any
smartphone or computer. The link is: www.ewtn.com
All are invited to make a
pilgrimage to the Shrine to assist at this Solemn High Mass, in
person.
What intentions will you be
submitting, which will be included in the full
ceremonial, Pontifical High Mass, offered by His Eminence Raymond
Cardinal Burke?
The December 16
Pontifical High Mass is the older, traditional, Extraordinary Form of
the Roman Rite that has been celebrated for centuries.
Here are some interesting
facts:
~ Only a Bishop, Archbishop,
Cardinal or Pope can celebrate a Pontifical High Mass.
~ Cardinal Burke will process in
the sanctuary wearing a cappa magna, a very lengthy and full silk
ecclesiastical vestment, with a
long train. A Cardinal's red
skull cap will be worn and not a bishop's mitre. The cappa magna represents the finery of the
world, with its power and prestige.
~ That is why after Cardinal Burke’s entrance wearing it, His
Eminence will be publicly stripped of this finery and humbled before
the congregation in the church. Then, vestment by vestment, His
Eminence will be clothed in the new man of which St. Paul speaks,
including the baptismal alb, the dalmatic of charity, the stole of
pardon and the chasuble of mercy. When finally clothed in Christ,
Cardinal Burke will begin the eucharistic celebration in persona
Christi.
~ His Eminence’s hands will be
ceremonially washed by four clerics. Gloves will cover his
hands.
~ His Eminence will be wearing
liturgical pontifical sandals on his feet, as well as liturgical
stockings, also known as buskins.
~ When Cardinal Burke will be
sitting and preaching, he will be on a chair called a “faldstool”
which will be placed in the middle of the sanctuary.
~ A Master of Ceremonies, clerics,
deacons, subdeacons and altar boys will be present.
~ Everything will be
sung.
If you have never assisted at
a Pontifical High Mass, please mark your calendar to either attend in
person or watch on EWTN – live from your television, computer or smart
phone, on December 16 at 11:00 AM Central Time, www.ewtn.com
Submit your intentions for His Eminence to remember in
this High Mass:
