For Rosie, the path to getting older hasn’t been without roadblocks. She coughed constantly at night and couldn’t sleep for years. Eventually, she required supplemental oxygen and a feeding tube. In 2019, with her health plummeting, she received a double-lung transplant.
Post-transplant, Rosie’s life has changed. She loves to ride her bike, spend time with her longtime partner, Pete, and travel to Florida.
However, new lungs bring their own set of complications. People who are post-transplant need to take immunosuppressive medications for the rest of their lives to reduce the chances of their new organs being rejected. But the immunosuppressants weaken the immune system, increasing the risk of infection.
We will never settle for less than everyone with CF living their healthiest lives possible. Through our Lung Transplant Initiative, we are committed to continuing to invest in research to significantly improve transplant outcomes for people with cystic fibrosis.
Your support will help everyone with cystic fibrosis — no matter where they are in their journey. Give now to help ensure every person with CF can live a life free of their disease.
