On Wednesday, Dec. 6, Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) released its annual November revenue forecast, which provides information and outlook for the state’s financial picture. While the latest forecast projects a $2.4 billion short term surplus, MMB indicates a looming $2.3 billion deficit beginning in 2025. In essence, this shows that Minnesota is on an unsustainable fiscal path. | Minnesota serves as one of the most overtaxed states in the nation, and this was only heightened last legislative session. With nearly a $10 billion increase in taxes and fees, Minnesota families, businesses and schools are feeling the impact of Democrats’ costly liberal agenda. With the latest budget forecast indicating a $2.3 billion deficit is on the horizon, Minnesotans cannot afford another session of extreme spending. We need to practice fiscal responsibility and protect Minnesota taxpayers. | Event on Funding Opportunities | On Nov. 2nd, I hosted an event for all city elected officials and county commissioners within Senate District 9 to learn about key funding opportunities that are available for local communities through the state and federal government. We had local representatives from DEED, MNDOT, USDA, and more present on grants and loan programs available. They additionally showed examples of how these funds have assisted in local communities. | We had a great turnout with around 80 individuals in attendance. Thank you to our local leaders for all of the work you do to improve our communities. If you ever have questions regarding these funding opportunities, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office. The Task Force consists of a bipartisan group of legislators, five from the House and five from the Senate. It aims to find ways to improve the life-saving services provided by EMS personnel in Minnesota communities. | Access to Emergency Medical Services is vital to Greater Minnesota but providing these services can often be more challenging. From higher fixed costs to difficulty recruiting and retaining its workforce, rural EMS face unique challenges. A February 2022 report by the Office of the Legislative Auditor outlined a variety of concerns about the overall viability of EMS providers and the persistent funding and staffing challenges they’ve faced in recent years, particularly in greater Minnesota. It’s essential to provide high-quality health care to all Minnesotans, and I’m eager to work with bipartisan legislators to find solutions for that. | On Thursday, December 7th, I joined Google's Online Safety Roadshow that was presented to 6 – 8 grade students in the Wheaton Area School District to help them stay safe online. Every day, our students are becoming more involved in the online world, and it’s crucial they have the knowledge to stay safe online. Promoting online safety and well-being is a top priority for parents and educators. Thank you to Google for visiting our community and giving an impactful presentation on this important subject. | During Hanukkah, we are reminded of the resilience and perseverance of the Jewish people.
